What do you make?
I make myself do things in front of a lens that I wouldn't ask anyone else to do.
What do you enjoy making the most?
The physical, tangible prep for a photo shoot. Creating props, live composition and choreography. Out there doin' it.
What work (by another person) has inspired you the most?
Yayoi Kusama's 'Infinity Mirrors' made me cry. It's on at the Hirshhorn at the moment, and I'm seeing heaps of stuff on social media about it and it gives me some feelings. Feelings like: anything is possible!
What do you find difficult about making art? How do you combat this?
Straight up, funding. Still navigating this one. I want to do all of the things, and also pay people fairly for their time. The time-as-currency art economy can be wonderful but has a major drawback of inequality and mostly it doesn't pay the bills.
What do you find difficult about the arts environment?
Burnout. High demand, high pressure, short time-frames, burnout. (Some) Institutions talk about 'artist burnout', but I have only had one gallery where they were actually like, 'oh nah yeah, come back to us when you're not so busy and look after yourself bebe'. Well, they may not have put it like that but, it felt really good to not have felt wrung out after an exchange.
What are you working on at the moment?
